Centennial Recognition Letter of the Sphinx Club of Wabash College

December 15, 2021

Dear Sphinx Club Member,

One hundred years ago today, on December 15, 1921, the founders of the Sphinx Club of Wabash College, all Wabash students, were initiated into the Sphinx Club by the Indiana University chapter. As you likely know, it is still thriving today. We will celebrate this milestone on campus at a 2022 football game.

Current Sphinx Club President, the 100th Wabash man to hold the office, Adam El-Khalili ‘23, writes, “The Sphinx Club's importance on campus is to promote campus unity and to keep the traditions of Wabash College alive. Given that the Club is still here after 100 years is truly something special and says a lot about keeping traditions alive at Wabash. I'm honored to serve as Sphinx Club President for our 100th year on campus, and I am grateful that I get to be part of this rich tradition. I believe the founders of our organization would be excited to know that our Club is turning 100 years old today since it shows that the Sphinx Club is an important and helpful organization to have on campus.”

And check out this connection. One of the founding members, H. E. Perkins, is the great-grandfather of immediate Past President of the Sphinx Club, Andrew Gonczarow ’22. Andrew writes, “It’s been an honor to be a part of the prestigious club on campus. I am thankful for all of the work that was put forth by decades of students before us to keep the traditions strong. My great-grandfather would be proud to see how the club has grown since the founding 100 years ago.”
